The Storm is a drama in five acts by
Aleksandr Ostrovskii (1823-1886) bringing
dramatic realism to the Russian theatre
stage. This play, one of his best-known,
offers a meticulously portrayed image of
the Russian society of his time, focusing
on the morals and manners of the
newly emerging merchant class. It was
extremely popular during his lifetime and
remains an integral part of the Russian
theatrical repertoire. This representation in
colour lithography by Viktor Goppe is his
interpretation of this classical drama as
performed in his hometown Kineshma.
