‘Sailor knot’ is a stage play in eight acts by Polina
Slutskina (born 1947). The play consists of eight
dialogues between a sailor and Assol. Assol is a
rare female name that appeared in the Soviet Union
after the publication of the novel ‘Scarlet Sails’ by
Aleksandr Grinberg in 1922. For each act Goppe
created a page with a linocut, in a style close to
those he made for the ‘Glue bottle’ (see cat. 138), to
which he mounted vintage photographs.
