Aleksandr Pushkin
Сказка о золотом петушке
The tale of the golden cockerel
Moscow: Goppe, 2000
210 x 150 mm. 16 pages
Edition: 12, copy № 5/12
The tale of the golden cockerel is one of
the most loved fairy-tales in verses by the
great Russian poet and writer Aleksandr
Pushkin. The best known illustrations are
the chromolithographs in the Russian Art
Nouveau style Ivan Bilibin (1876-1942)
designed for the 1910 edition. In his
illustrations Goppe does not use elements
of the classical Russian imagery. His
stencils and etchings are all colourful
but quite loosely constructed and freely
dispatched over the pages.
