                                                               Violets are the subject of Konstantin
                                                               Kedrov’s ‘Violetiade’. Kedrov (born 1942)
                                                               is poet, scholar, artist, philosopher, and
                                                               teacher in one person. In his philosophy
                                                               he argues that the growth of a plant is
                                                               similar to the birth of poetry and that plants
                                                               like verses can undergo a metamorphosis
                                                               into butterflies. That is why Van Gogh
                                                               painted sunflowers, Monet, water lilies and
                                                               Kedrov composed this poem about violets.
                                                               Goppe printed this poem on lilac paper
                                                               and illustrated the verses with collages and
                                                               colour silkscreen prints.
